TimestealerCafé

Our story

Twenty years of cooking, one small counter.

Timestealer is a family business. It began at home, in a domestic kitchen, cooking for people who kept coming back — and it is still run by the same family that started it.

A pair of hands shaping dough on a floured wooden board.

How it went

From a home kitchen to Block 267.

Six chapters, roughly in order. None of them involve a business plan.

The home kitchen

It started as a home-based business — one cook, a domestic oven, and orders taken from people who already knew the food. Everything since has been an attempt to keep that scale while serving more people.

Cooking for the neighbours

Heartland word of mouth is slow and then sudden. Regular orders turned into standing ones, and standing orders turned into a queue the kitchen at home could not hold.

The unit on Street 21

Block 267, unit #01-39. Small enough that most orders leave in a bag, close enough that people pick up on the walk back from the MRT. The size of the shop set the size of the menu, and that turned out to be the right way round.

Mama Moon on the pass

The main chef is still the person who started it. Rice bowls, loaded croissants, baked potatoes, and whatever came out of the oven that morning — all of it goes through one pair of hands.

Short menu, on purpose

A long menu in a small kitchen means most of it sits waiting. A short one means everything is cooked when you ask for it. We would rather run out of something at four o’clock than serve it lukewarm at two.

Where the name came from

The best hour of a working day is the one you did not account for — the coffee that turns into a sit-down, the ten-minute errand that runs long because the food arrived hot. We steal that hour back for you. That is the whole idea.

A small kitchen is not a limitation to work around. It is the reason the food is worth walking to.

Come by

Best way to understand it is to eat something.

The counter is open Monday to Saturday. Bring an appetite and about twenty minutes you were not planning to spend.
